Blue Star Moms in San Jose
Hi Friends:
This will be our third year taking donations to the San Jose chapter of the Blue Star Moms. We like to do this every November to help out the Blue Star Moms to fill up the gift boxes they send to our troops. This is from their website to tell you more about who they are:
“South Bay Blue Star Moms provide military family support in the San Francisco South Bay area in Northern California. Throughout the year, we create and send military troop care packages to show our loved ones they are heroes, we appreciate their service, and we continue to support them while they are away from home.”
This time of year, they get packages together to send in time for the holidays and this year they are having a big Care Package Event on Dec. 6th, so I want to be a collection point for the next 3 weeks and get our goodies to them in time for their Care Package Event.
This year, they are specifically asking for the following donations, so if you can make a donation, these are some items they are looking for this 2014 Care Package Season:
- Foil Packs of Tuna
- Instant Oatmeal Packets
- Beef Jerky individual packs
- Trail Mix individual packs
- Protein Bars
- Sunflower Seeds or other individual bags of nuts
- Disposable razors
- Baby wipes individual packets
- Travel size shaving cream, travel shampoo and conditioner (Non-aerosol)
Eye Drops
- First Aid Kits (the small ones)
- Dominoes, Cards, Dice, Hacky Sacks
- DVD’s of movies and t.v. shows or comedy shows (gently used ok)
- Crew Socks size 9 – 11
- Men’s T-Shirts
- Boot Insoles
- Current Magazines (gently used)
- Note Cards
In the past, people have asked if they could donate their hotel shampoo/conditioner/lotions and the answer is yes. Just please make sure they are unopened and that they are not super old. Make sure the caps are on tight still. Personally I feel such a huge amount of gratitude to all military families and all of our troops for all that they do. So grateful for all of their sacrifices. If we can make one soldiers Christmas or Hanukkah a tiny bit better this season, I think it’s the least we can do.
Our store is open 12 to 7 weeks days. Saturday 12 to 6. Sunday 11 to 4. Our last day for collection is the Monday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 24th. We will deliver the donations on the 25th.
