Curvy Girls or Cannabis in Super Bowl?
Curvy Girl Lingerie Competes Against Cannabis Advocacy Group in Super Bowl Commercial Competition
October 3, 2013 – Of the millions of people watching the Super Bowl every year, nearly half (46%) are women. Although some like football, for many the primary motivation is socializing and watching the commercials. The ads are considered the cream of the crop, yet the average woman appearing in them is size 0; not exactly a realistic representation of average women in America who are actually a size 14! It’s time the Curvy Revolution be televised!
How empowering would it be for American women and young girls to see models that look like them in such a prominent spotlight? That’s why Curvy Girl Lingerie, the second plus-size lingerie boutique in the country, is competing in Intuit’s Small Business Big Game contest, in which small businesses can win a TV commercial during the Super Bowl. If they win, they intend to put real women that look like most of America’s friends, neighbors and family members front and center, as an example that beauty extends beyond size 0.
“At Curvy Girl, we emphasize that sexy isn’t a size,” said Chrystal Bougon, owner of the boutique store. “Our mission is help women see how beautiful and sexy they are, which is something that can resonate with everyone watching the game. After all, men like beautiful curvy women, too.”
The competition is fierce, with hundreds of companies competing, including NORML, an organization working to legalize marijuana.
“No matter how you feel about marijuana, there’s just a higher percentage of game viewers that resonate with sexy, confident women,” explained Chrystal. “We think our message will resonate stronger and more personally with more of the Super Bowl’s audience.”
Following the end of round two in late October, the field will be narrowed to 20 semifinalists, from which Intuit will select four finalists, and the company that receives the most votes will win a professionally produced Super Bowl commercial courtesy of Intuit QuickBooks.
