Since I opened my plus size lingerie boutique in Oct. 2012, I have been contacted several times by various parties to create a Curvy Girl Lingerie T.V. Show. Several networks and casting directors have reached out to us to create a Curvy Girl Lingerie show for them. And, we even created a sizzle reel for two of them. We were pitched to some really BIG LABEL networks which I will NOT name here. But, we never got funded or picked up.
My guess is that we talked about sex a little too much and maybe they could sense me holding back some when they interviewed me or met with us. Maybe they didn’t think the “world” was ready to see fat women who are fat, fabulous and proud. Maybe they weren’t ready for fat women who weren’t obsessed about the next diet or cleanse. Maybe there weren’t ready for fat women who weren’t putting their lives on hold until we get to some b.s. ideal weight. NOT SURE.
My team and I would bring it up over and over with the casting directors and network people that it was IMPERATIVE that we not be shown in an unflattering light. I kept telling them I could NOT be involved in a project that would make a mockery of fat people or that would be dehumanizing in any way. I kept giving them the example of the local and national news and how whenever they are talking about “Fat” and “Obesity” on the news – they would show fat people walking down the street with their heads cut off.
I kept hammering home that I would ONLY be involved if the show would be showing fat people as actual living, breathing and FEELING humans who live their lives full of love and pleasure. I kept telling them I could not have my name or my store attached to a project unless it was empowering and uplifting. It had to celebrate all bodies, all ages, all abilities and it has to be fun, sex positive, body positive, sassy and celebratory.
So, maybe that is why we never got our Curvy Girl Lingerie T.V. Or, maybe that is not the reason at all – who knows. I will never know. But, I am so glad none of those happened because now we have this amazing new platform called CrowdedReality.com. (More info about donating or sharing here.)

My friend created this new platform, CrowdedReality.com and she really wants to see a t.v. show about Curvy Girl Lingerie made. She created this cool crowd funding platform that allows people like you and me get our t.v. show made. And then we get ALL of the control of how it is edited. We get all of the creative control.
Getting our pilot made will rely on your social currency and my social currency. I get it. We can’t all donate to every single Crowd Funding project that shows up in our feed. And, those of us in the activism community get bombarded with these great causes all day long. And if you’re like me, you want to donate to all of them.
But, where this one is a little different is that you can REALLY HELP us just by sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Linked In. So, while we would LOVE your $1 or $5 or $35 donation, what we really need is your social currency and your social savvy.
