This woman (the Fit Mom) is the master at getting p.r. for her fitness business. GOOD LORD! We should all take lessons from her, I guess.
I went rounds with her about 4 years ago and if you Google “Curvy Girl vs. The Fit Mom” you will see me on CNN, Entertainment Tonight, The Bethenny Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Access Hollywood , on Jezebel, the Huffington Post and so many more.
I tried so hard for so many years to take the high road and not call her out. In 2013, she shared she was in recovery from an eating disorder and that she was going through some marriage problems. I asked my team to go easy on her as they were pissed that she was calling us out and shaming / bullying us and our “Regular Women in Lingerie” campaign. I even welcomed to my store to extend an olive branch. She kept raving on and on that she was NOT a bully. I tried really hard to go high and not make the whole thing worse. ( I was interviewed on over 17 media outlets in two weeks about the whole dust up.)
Well, I am DONE with her. This was my “I am going to be kind response” I wrote in 2013 while this was all going on. The gloves are off now. ( I was trying to be a compassionate person since it is very well documented, by her, that she has/had an eating disorder.)
I rolled my eyes so hard in 2016 when she was at it again with her “I ate a donut. I gained 10 lbs and her is my photo for the internet” campaign she kicked off with People Magazine. (Also, came out around the time of her book, coincidentally.) She was talking about how now she realizes that sometimes there are excuses and sometimes women do gain a little weight.
Let me refresh your memory. The “Fit Mom” is also known as the “What’s Your Excuse?” Mom. Can you FEEL my eyes rolling through the screen yet? I saw my brain. And, yes, Maria – eye rolling is my cardio. She was basically shaming all womankind by suggesting that there is no excuse to be fat – even if you just had a baby, like her! (Women who are post-partum do NOT need more shame from anyone. Shit howdy. They just created another human being. Crap. Cut them some slack.)
Well, I know you will be so shocked to know she has inserted herself into another press dust-up with more fat women. For someone who is not much of a fan of fat bodies, she sure seems to be all up in our social media business.
This time she decided to give her opinion about the “I Love My Curvy Wife” viral debate. You know, the story where they husband wrote a ridiculous Instagram post about how much he loves his fat wife. Apparently he is a feminist and he wants a cookie for loving his “curvy” wife. He wrote this long note about how much he loves her, despite her having some cellulite and not being a size 4. (Ok, that may not be exactly what he said, but that is how it sounds.) You can read his IG post here on Teen Vogue.)
Sidebar: YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LOVE YOUR PARTNER YOU LUNK HEAD!
I think Teen Vogue said it best here:
“Love is great. Celebrating your love is even greater. We love love. But here’s the thing — when celebrating your love seems to involve congratulating yourself for loving someone who you think society doesn’t deem lovable, it becomes less cute.”
So, that bring us back to the “Fit Mom” who apparently has an opinion about this guy and his note to his wife. You can read the entire feud between Maria and Tess Holiday here on Yahoo.
“(The Fit Mom) offered her take on both Tripp and Holliday with a Facebook post. “Did anyone read this story about a husband loving his wife regardless of size?” she wrote. “I thought it was a sweet tribute of someone loving their spouse despite any standard. When I see someone like Tess Holliday criticize this, it’s disheartening. Tess is an obese model (not thick, plus size or curvy) who has popularized the term #effyourbeautystandards and should promote positivity in all forms.” Kang was referring to Holliday’s viral hashtag that promotes size acceptance.” (Quote Credit, Yahoo News.)
Seriously??? Apparently, the “What’s Your Excuse Mom” has not gotten enough mileage from bulling us fatties on social media, yet. UGGG. Just stop already. STAY IN YOUR LANE, Maria. This has nothing to do with you or your book or your fitness events with your Mom groups. Why are you commenting, if not for p.r.? Are you just trying to rattle some cages for more p.r.? Don’t you have enough to do without having to deal with all of this social media crap?
How do you even see a post from a Tess Holiday or the stuff we do on our Curvy Girl page. Why are you following us on IG or FB? It feels like you are no different then those “trolls” who troll our pages and talk shit to us? (Whom I often suspect are trolling for masturbatory reasons and are confused by the boners they get from the gorgeous women in lingerie I post. They are confused by their erections.)
How do we confuse you?? My guess is that you are confused by how happy we are and all of the fun we have in our fat bodies. Are you mad that we do not obsess about being thin? Are you angry that we do not work out as much as you? (Well, I don’t anyway. Not sure about the other people of size out there though) Plus, none of us have to justify our existence to you or anyone else.
Do you still believe you can tell how healthy someone is by looking at a photo? I suspect you have not learned much from our media drama 4 years ago. But, my best guess it that you are more likely hungry for more press.
What do you all think is her agenda?
Please share here in the comments.
Ms. Fit Mom, if ever read this, can we just have our little sliver of cyber space all to our own. You do not see us going to your social sites and talking shit. All of this stuff really does actually make you a bully, no matter how much you try to deny that.
