May 6th is International No Diet Day. How are you celebrating? I hope you will post your NO DIET DAY pictures to show the world exactly how you plan to celebrate your natural size. (Photo Credit goes to : National Eating Disorder Center)
Personally, I divested from diets about 15 years ago. I noticed they never worked for me, no matter how hard I tried. Then, I started to learn about Fat Acceptance and Body Love and learned that I was NOT a failure at all. I realized that DIETS DO NOT work and that is according to the marketing materials from the diet themselves. I never read the fine print. You might lose some weight (not fat) in the short term, but about 95% of dieters gain their weight back and then some more within 1 to 5 years.
I realize it is very scary for some people to give up diets as it is so ingrained in our culture. I’ve known some of my friends 30 years or more and they are constantly on a diet or a cleanse. It is like it almost becomes a hobby or a way of life to be on the next best diet plan for them. Talk about screwing up your metabolism.
But, what I wish for you is some peace around your body today. And, if you are up for it, I also hope you feel like celebrating your natural size today. It always starts with that first baby step, right? One day of feeling neutral about your body or when possible, really loving our natural body size can lead to more days where you are proud of our body and celebrating all of the fabulous things your fat body can do for you.
If you in a seriously difficult relationship with your body, please do not ignore that. Sometimes we need professional help to deal with our body issues and there is no shame in getting help. This world is seriously effed up when it comes to making us feel like crap about our bodies and it is hard NOT to be impacted by all of that messaging. Here is a link to hotline for a fabulous hotline for the National Eating Disorder Hotline. They also can do text chat, too, for more privacy.
