Yup. I stand with Planned Parenthood. And, I will defend, donate and do everything I can to keep them doing what they do – Helping millions of women, men and children! (Birth Control, STD/STI Education, Emergency Contraception, General Health Care, Cancer Screenings, Pregnancy Support, Body Image, Men’s Health, Body Image Education, UTI Treatment, Pre-Natal Support, Adoption Support and yes, sometimes safe and legal abortions.)
On March 25th, we are going to have an Open Mic night at Curvy Girl to benefit Planned Parenthood. You are invited to read your favorite poem, sing a song, dance or whatever your heart desires. Open to the public. Please invite your friends.
We are asking for a $5 donation from people who want to have 3 to 5 minutes on stage (and by stage, I mean you get the floor. Nothing too fancy here). And, for those of you who want to attend and join our celebration, we are asking for a $5 donation.
If you cannot make it and would like to make a direct donation to Planned Parenthood, I created a special link just for our event. You can donate as little as $5 to PP here: Curvy Girl Link for Donation Here (Trying to raise $500 by March 31st for PP.)
For me, personally, as a woman who has been self-employed for over 15 years, I have often relied on Planned Parenthood when I did not have any medical insurance or had really crappy medical insurance. I also remember using them when I was away at college in the late 80’s. I went to them for birth control and for information about safe sex. I have hundreds and hundreds of friends who have relied on Planned Parenthood over the years. What would I have done without Planned Parenthood? How would I have received my annual pap or a mammogram when I did not have insurance. (“Planned Parenthood provides nearly 400,000 Pap tests and nearly 500,000 breast exams nationally each year.”
I stand with Planned Parenthood and I always will support them in any way I can.
As far as the evening goes, it will be lots of fun. I will supply some wine, water, nibble and cookies from Desserts by Jeanette. She is making extra special “I Stand With Planned Parenthood” cookies for the party. We will have a sale and we will donate 20% of our sales from the party to PP. Plus, I will be donating 10% off all of our boutique sales for the month of March to PP. (I try to donate a little bit every year to PP, even in the years when I really struggled financially because I believe in this organization so much.)
Bring your friends. Our parties are so much about community and if you have never been to a party with 50 to 80 rad fatties, this is your chance. Remember to layer, because most of our event will take place outside. And, bring a folding chair or two since we only have 14. (Practice great self care and bring a comfy folding chair.)
I hope you will join us on March 25th at Curvy Girl from 5 to 8pm. 2990 Meridian Ave, San Jose, CA 95124. Our boutique is ADA compliant. We also happen to have a bus stop about 40 feet from our front door, so you can also take the VTA to our event. (Or, if our parking lot is full, be sure to park at B of A. But, please please please use the cross walk to cross the street. Meridian is a very busy street.)
*** If you bring any of these items we will give to the local Blue Star Moms, we will have a special Screaming O Ring or Cream for you as a thank you for your donation:
